“Appetizer Marketing”

Appetizer Marketing….no, I’m not doing marketing for a new restaurant or branching out in to a new niche of marketing small food.  Appetizer Marketing is the way in which you “give a little taste” of what your company can do.  It’s a way to reach the client that you want (and need).

We know that thoughts and advice can be given and received literally at the touch of a button, through Twitter, websites, FB, etc.  Appetizer Marketing capitalizes on that instantaneous (dare I say, impulsive) touch point with your next client.   It’s a way of getting out your product in bite size “tastes”.  Of course, it must be delicious, i.e. relevant and representative of your offerings.  It’s about being very intentional about the content you put out as a company and making sure it means something to the type of client you want (and need).

Appetizers (the food kind), satisfy a need (hunger) and yet don’t fill you up.  Appetizers (marketing kind), give the prospect a clear way of seeing (dare I say, feeling) what you do and how it will help them and yet, doesn’t really “solve” their issue.

Appetizers (the food kind), are small, bite-sized and elegantly presented.  Appetizers (marketing kind), are short, meaningful, thought-provoking steps that point the prospect in the right direction.

Appetizers (the food kind), are available in many different flavors, types and are presented as “samples”.  Appetizers (marketing kind), should be sampling of your company’s philosophy, style and should be “packaged” to attract the ideal client.

Most websites tend to be on the “brunch buffet” style of marketing.  They give a person every option of any kind and really lay out all the offerings your company has available.  Appetizer Marketing is where you get to pick the juiciest part of your company’s offerings and present them in a taste format.  If they want more, they need to really come after you and get the whole tray – or better yet order up private catering!

The trick with Appetizer Marketing is that you have to have a clear understanding of who your company is, wants to be, where your company is going and who your client should be.  Then, you have package it and place it in the right spot so that that ideal client will want to pick it up and “taste” it.

Blogging, Twitter and Cinch are great ways to hand out Appetizer Marketing.  Be sure you’ve followed the guidelines for good appetizers (the marketing kind) and know how it fits into your company plans for mission, vision, marketing, sales…etc.

Bon Appétit!
